Balarama- Bluebonnet Nominee

I am soooooo against anything that involves animals being captured and used to perform in circuses or any event where humans use them to perform tricks.  So it when I began reading this book I was disgusted at how in India they used to capture elephants in pits and then tame them to be used in processions.  UGHH. It was good to read that today it is illegal to trap elephants in India and that the ones being used are ones born in captivity and that wild elephants can roam free.
Anyway, Balarama is the story of a couple who had traveled to India and came to love an elephant by the name of Drona.  Drona was to be the lead elephant in the royal procession the following year, but was tragically electrocuted.  Balarama was then chosen to take Drona's place and finally captures the hearts of the the couple.
Ok, even though elephants are treated more humanely that they were before and Balarama was not mistreated, I am still a advocate for animals and just don't know why humans have to go in and destroy everything that is good with nature.
