Grandma's Gift

Grandma's Gift is the story of a boy who visits his Puerto Rican grandmother over the Christmas holidays.  He is also required to visit the museum and write a report about his trip.  Upon his arrival his grandmother takes him shopping for ingredients to make traditional Puerto Rican Christmas recipes and he helps her make pastels, which seem to be like tamales.  Finally, the boy and his grandmother visit the museum, but she is apprehensive ecause she never ventures far from her neighborhood.  During the visit to the museum, they come across a painting of a Juan de Pareja, who was a slave before he was freed and became a great painter.  The boy is suddenly aware that the museum offers a variety of exhibits that all cultures can embrace.
This story of a boy and his grandmother is touching and heatwarming.
