The Hallelujah Flight- Bluebonnet Nominee

James Banning was an African American pilot that flew across the United States in 1932 when, of course, flying was a new luxery and African Americans were not even 'supposed' to do things like that.  The author Phil Bidner tells the little known story of the amazing flight and all the problems such as engine trouble to prejudice that he faced.  The Hallelujah Flight is an inspiring story that shows that anything can be accomplished when you set your mind to it.  John Hollyfield's illustrations beautifully add to the story.
